5th Annual International Conference on the Blues

September 30 - October 2, 2018

The International Conference on the Blues consisted of three days of scholarly activity, discourse, and music on the Delta State University campus.

Academic presentations, Blues performances, a "Blues in the Round" jam session open to participants, and a tribute to Muddy Waters & the Morganfield Family added appeal for all audiences. Tickets to a performance by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue were also available.

Topics of interest to scholars and enthusiasts included the blues; African American musical traditions and influences on world cultures; the influence of gospel, spirituals, and soul music; music of the American Civil Rights Movement; African American music as social commentary and protest; and history and culture of the Mississippi Delta. The conference program also included academic papers and presentations, and Blues performances added appeal for all audiences.
